Grandma's Philly is a Thai restaurant that blends a cozy dining vibe with an upscale yet relaxed bar and lounge atmosphere right in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. Situated on Walnut Street, this spot works well for everything from casual solo dinners to lively small-group evenings where sharing a range of flavorful plates is the focus.

The menu leans into Thai classics with a twist of comforting familiarity, echoing the kind of home-cooked meals you might imagine from a family kitchen. The atmosphere here strikes a balance between polished and approachable, making it feel inviting whether you’re perched at the bar or settled into a booth. Many visitors find themselves gravitating toward the small plates for their shareable nature, with dishes like curry puffs offering flaky, spicy goodness that's great for nibbling alongside a cocktail.

Drinks are an integral part of the experience, with creative cocktails like the Lychee Martini and Thai Tea-based concoctions adding an enjoyable layer to the evening. The bar staff’s warm hospitality stands out, especially on busy weeknights when the place hums with energy yet service remains attentive and personal.

Highlights on the menu that regularly draw praise include the Grandma’s Meatballs, which come across as richly seasoned and tender, and the Thai Papaya Salad, a refreshing counterbalance with its bright, spicy, and tangy flavors. For noodle lovers, options such as the curry noodles (Khao Soi) and drunken noodles reliably deliver bold, comforting flavors without veering too far into heaviness.

This spot suits diners who appreciate well-executed Thai dishes that keep tradition alive but presented in a way that fits an urban dining scene. Whether you're stopping by after work for a few appetizers and a thoughtfully crafted cocktail or sitting down for a full meal with friends, Grandma’s Philly offers a blend of comfort food vibes and modern polish. The best time to visit might be during the early evening when the place buzzes with a mix of locals relaxing after a day’s work and visitors settling in for a flavorful night out.

First time at Grandma’s Philly Thai and it was a clear 5-star experience. We ordered Grandma’s meatballs, the crispy pork stir-fry with rice, and the Pad Cha Talay spicy seafood. Every dish came out hot, well-seasoned, and balanced – crispy pork with real crunch but still tender inside, rich and flavorful meatballs with just the right amount of sauce, and the seafood stir-fry packed with shrimp, calamari, and fish, all cooked perfectly, not rubbery. Portions were solid and plating actually looked as good as it tasted. Our server, Dominic, ran the whole night smoothly. She knew the menu, gave accurate descriptions of the spice levels, timed everything so the table never felt rushed or waiting, and checked in just enough without hovering. Drinks stayed full, plates were cleared quickly, and he stayed calm and professional even while the place was busy. If you like Thai food with real flavor and competent service, this spot delivers. Dominic and the kitchen both did their jobs at a high level, and I’d come back and order the same dishes again.

Back in Philly for work and this was a great find. I just ordered a couple appetizers, the tofu satay and crab rolls (I honestly can't remember the actual name), and the pandan cocktail. They were slammed on a Wed night so I had high hopes & they delivered. Pretty interior. The bartender was so nice and made my little solo dinner awesome. Food was delicious and I loooved the cocktail. They also have hitachino beer, yum. I definitely told my team all about this place and will def come back next time I'm in Philly.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Grandma’s Philly Restaurant is an absolute gem! The food tastes just like something straight from grandma’s kitchen — comforting, flavorful, and made with so much love. Every dish comes out fresh and full of flavor, but the real standouts for me are Grandma’s Meatballs and the Papaya Salad. The meatballs are tender, juicy, and packed with rich, savory flavor — easily one of my favorites. The papaya salad is super refreshing with the perfect balance of tangy, spicy, and crunchy — it complements everything so well! The staff are always warm and friendly, making you feel like part of the family. The space has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the portions are generous for the price. If you’re craving a hearty, home-style meal that hits the spot every time, Grandma’s Philly is the place to go. I’m already looking forward to coming back for more meatballs and papaya salad!

Grandma’s Philly has been on my list to try forever, and I’m so glad I finally got around to visiting! It’s a great place to get Thai cuisine in an upscale but still relaxed environment. We sat at the bar and started with a thai espresso martini. It was rich and creamy, but a tad sweet for my liking. For food, we got the grandma’s meatballs, crispy chives and drunken noodles. The grandma’s meatballs were outstanding - the sauce was very robust (sweet + savory). I used the sauce in conjunction with the other dishes. The crispy chives were fried perfectly and had a lot more flavor than I was expecting. The drunken noodles we got with chicken and spice level 2. The heat was a nice kick without being overpowering, and I enjoyed the wide noodles. The menu was so expansive, I had a hard time choosing (a good problem). This is now a new favorite restaurant, and I can’t wait to come back and try more.

Everything was an absolute flavor bomb! From the veggie spring rolls to the massaman curry and the drunken noodles, everything was fantastic. I an vegan and I had so many options. My husband and I had a quick stopover on our way to the airport, and even though we live over 2 hours away, we will be coming back just to eat here again!

First of all, shoutout to Jada for an excellent experience and great recommendations! Curry puffs were out of this world. Crunchy exterior, soft pastry inside with a flavorful curry filling. Heaven The Duck was fall off the bone tender was gone within a minute of hitting the table. Drunken Noodles were very good with tons of flavor and good amount of protein. The noodles were killer, soft with a slight chew.

Excellent food, amazing vibes and gets really busy so reservations recommended. Also service is a bit slow but understandable. Not at all kid friendly. Good for date nights and groups. It can get really loud so not recommended for business dinners or first dates.
